Today's STEAM challenge was to create a compass rose using just Keva planks. Here is the Design Brief they followed. Then we had some extra time for creative building.
Today was International Dot Day and many of us wore our dots! (Photo by Dante.)
We also used watercolors to make our own marks after we read "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds. Click here to go our Dot Gallery of all our wonderful paintings.
Yesterday, Sunday, was Grandparent's Day, and to celebrate at Crozet we invited all the grandparents to have lunch with their grandchildren in the cafetorium today. We are so glad so many parents, grandparents, and friends could join us today!
Today we built Keva Plank Towers! First we each built towers with 16 planks in 5 minutes. Then we combined into teams of two, then 4, then 8, then finally the class was split into just two teams for 10 minutes of building time each time. Our towers kept getting bigger and bigger, except for the last time. Both team's towers toppled before the time was up and had to start over. It was so much fun!The best part was when Mrs. Huneycutt came around and did the "earthquake challenge". She shook the corner of the desk to see if the tower would hold up to the challenge. We got better at beating this challenge after the first time.
Today we did the marshmallow and toothpick tower challenge. We found out that a good base is important and to never give up. Oh...and in all cases, have fun even if your tower collapses! Click here for the anchor sheet for our challenge.
