Today we participated in Jump Rope For Heart. Students ran through various stations and exercised and jumped their hearts out for 1 hour to raise money for the American Heart Association. The school raised over $9,000!
For our February French lesson, we celebrated Mardi Gras! First we saw a video clip and some pictures of Mardi Gras being celebrated in France. Then we strung beads to make necklaces and made masks before parading around the room. Finally we saw a demonstration of how crepes are made and a few students tried to flip one before we all had a crepe as our treat of the day.
Today was our second field trip of the year to Amazement Square in Lynchburg and it was truly AMAZING! Our kids were so psyched to go after we completed a WebQuest yesterday in class so they could narrow down their free choice exploration time to the things they really wanted to do. We explored the many hands-on exhibits, had free time playing on the 4+ story climbing tower and were guided through the Native American exhibit. So cool!
Here we are all excited on the bus. "Are we almost there yet?"
Here we are at some of the hands-on exhibits.
The 4-story climbing tower with the zipline, slides, and climbing walls was the favorite of most students.
We learned about all three tribes that we have been studying at the American Indian Exhibit. First our class was split into three groups and assigned to explore and collect artifacts from a different tribe. The the students presented their findings to the rest of the class before all students explored all areas of this exhibit.
With it being such a beautiful day, we had lunch outside, and then back on the bus to head home.
Valentine's Day is always a favorite for 2nd graders! We delivered valentines to the bags we decorated yesterday, graphed hearts in math (and ate them, too), opened our Valentines, danced along with Go Noodle, and best of all...made our own ice cream sundaes. Yum! To top off the day, Ms. Melson came and visited!
