Today we celebrated the end (15th day) of the Chinese New Year celebration with the Lantern Festival. We made these cool lanterns we found here on the web which we adjusted slightly. The kids really enjoyed coloring their dragons to make each one unique.
Kudos to two of our gals who performed in the Crozet Talent Show this Friday night. They did an awesome job!
Today we participated in Jump Rope for Heart. We moved through different fun stations and in the end were awarded with popsicles. Our school raised over $7,000 for the American Heart Association!
Today we had our Valentine's Day Party. While opening our Valentine bags we decorated earlier in the week, we enjoyed ice cream sundaes with all the toppings. Then we took a Year of the Monkey photo with the China hats we made and the monkeys Mrs. Huneycutt gave us.
Today we built tables made out of newspaper tubes and a piece of cardboard with our 5th grade tech buddies. The tables had to hold up a text book. Some even held up more than one! You can our plan from PBS's Design Squad Global by clicking here.
As part of our unit on China students made tangram pictures and wrote stories to go with them. See the stories and pictures hanging in the hall outside our door.
