Today the entire 2nd grade went to the Wonder Lounge to listen to Mr. Kevin, lead bus driver, talk about bus safety. As all students go on field trips, this was really important for to hear before our first field trip in a couple of weeks.
For our first STEM session of the year we sorted out our LearnToLearn materials into individual packets and checked that we had all the pieces by building Learnie, who uses all the pieces in each students pack. All second grade classes purchased a class set with the $100 given to us from the PTO. (Thanks, PTO!!) We look forward to working with the Lego curriculum materials and other teacher and student generated lessons throughout the year.
Students were challenged to build a 24 piece puzzle in groups of three...with out talking. They could only communicate through silent gestures. This was hard, but a bunch of fun!
After Reading McDuff Moves In, students found a comfy spot to write to the prompt, "If I could have any animal for a pet..." Parents will be able to read through the student's initial writing pieces at Back to School Night on September 13th.
The first couple of weeks of our Investigations math program surveys the math manipulatives we will use throughout the year, like these pattern blocks.
OK, well maybe it was the second day! The first day was so busy!
