Today we finished up building and racing our Turbo Racers made from K'nex kits during our STEM time. Mrs. Huneycutt will be teaching a session at Girl's Geek Day this Saturday, and wanted to test out her session plan with us. This was so much fun! We especially liked building on to the base plans to try to make our racers faster. Sometimes they actually went slower, but Mrs. Huneycutt said we got points for style!
Today we saw the school play, The Jungle Book, during school time, and many returned this evening to see it again. It was marvelous! The costumes were awesome and the chorus sounded superb. Kudos to the chorus members from our class...Jack, Ty, Colin, and Charlotte.
Today a pro-tennis player, Jessica Wacnik, came to visit our 2nd graders. Jessica is currently on the ITF pro-circuit tour and was in town playing at a tournament at the Boar's Head. She talked to the students about how she became a tennis player and then showed the students how to volley. Every student got to hit against Jessica! How exciting!
Today students finished sharing their Earth Day Recycle Projects. What creative and artistic minds! Thanks, parents, for helping out with these projects.
Today was our last field trip of the year to Natural Bridge. After speaking to the educational consultants the night before we decided to go despite the forecast of rain. While on the way down we found out the bridge was closed (!) due to flooding. They told us this was the first time that has ever happened. What a disappointment! However, the rangers and guides were wonderfully accommodating. The guides still took us down by shuttle to the base of the trail and we were able to see the bridge from a distance. Then, instead of the outdoor Monacan Village we visited the indoor education center that has many of the things the outdoor one has. Finally, at the caverns we were able to go "mining for gems" in addition to the cavern tour, which was not originally part of our package! What a great day it turned out to be.
Thanks to the 11 (!) parents who went with us on the field trip. You all were so very patient and flexible with our ever changing schedule, even when one of our buses broke down and we had to 3 to a seat on one bus on the way back!
This week students were asked to share a souvenir from their spring break, This homework assignment asked students to bring in an item, picture, or story about something they did over spring break. We were treated to Google slideshows and stories. Here is a one picture from each child who shared.
